The Lakers further trimmed their roster by cutting guard Andrew Goudelock on Saturday, the team announced.
The Lakers currently have the league maximum 15 players, 13 with guaranteed contracts. The two without guaranteed deals are second-round draft picks Robert Sacre and Darius Johnson-Odom.
Goudelock, a second year player from College of Charleston, saves the Lakers $789,000.
“It was tough, it was a tough one,” Coach Mike Brown said. “He’s a great guy, he’s an NBA player. Maybe he’ll get an opportunity someplace else, if he finds a place that fits for him.”
Goudelock caught Brown’s eye as a rookie, shooting 37 percent from 3-point range and averaging 4.4 points. He averaged 3.8 points and 0.8 assists in limited play during the preseason.
Should the Lakers waive another, Johnson-Odom could be the next to leave. The Lakers are high on Sacre and Brown said Saturday that Johnson-Odom “has a long way to go.
“He’s a good guy, works hard,” Brown said. “(He’s) athletic, explosive. He’s strong, he got some intangibles. He’s a young guy who doesn’t quite have a good feel for the NBA game, so, it would be some time before he’s ready.”
